Question 1

What window and door services do you offer?

Accepted Answer

We provide comprehensive window and door installation and replacement services including double hung windows, sliding windows, casement & awning windows, bay and bow windows, energy saving glass, patio doors, entry doors, French doors, and storm doors for both residential and commercial properties.

Question 2

What is the best way to compare windows?

Accepted Answer

There is only one reliable way to compare windows and that is by asking for the NFRC* rating for each window that you are considering. NFRC labels are independently certified and rate the whole window performance by U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). The lower these ratings are the better the window will perform. The priority of U-Factor versus SHGC depends on your climate. You should ignore all the sales hype and choose the best NFRC ratings for your climate at the best cost.

Question 3

What areas do you serve in Florida?

Accepted Answer

We serve Orange, Brevard, Seminole, Lake, Osceola, and Volusia Counties including Apopka, Forest City, Wekiva Springs, Clarcona, Lockhart, Zellwood, Ocoee, Winter Garden, and surrounding areas in Central Florida.

Question 4

Are your installers trained and certified?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! Our installation team has extensive training in window and door installation techniques. As a locally owned business backed by a national brand, we ensure our team stays current with the latest industry standards and proper installation methods for optimal performance and energy efficiency.

Question 5

Does The Window Source have Energy Star windows and doors?

Accepted Answer

Yes, any window or patio door ordered with a LowE glass upgrade will qualify for the Energy Star guidelines for the climate zone where purchased. This guarantee always comes in writing on your contract specifications, so you will be assured of ordering and receiving the best LowE glass that is optimized for your particular climate zone.

Question 6

What types of windows do you install and replace?

Accepted Answer

We install and replace double hung windows, sliding windows, casement windows, awning windows, bay windows, bow windows, and specialty-shaped windows. Our experienced team can recommend the best window solution for your specific needs, home style, and budget.

Question 7

How often should I replace my windows?

Accepted Answer

Quality windows typically last 15-20 years or more with proper maintenance. However, you should consider replacement if you notice drafts, condensation between panes, difficulty opening or closing, high energy bills, or visible damage. Energy-efficient windows can significantly reduce your utility costs.

Question 8

Why are my windows fogging up between the glass panes?

Accepted Answer

Fogging between glass panes indicates seal failure in double or triple-pane windows. This allows moisture to enter the sealed space between panes. Once this happens, the window has lost its energy efficiency, and the foggy appearance cannot be cleaned. Replacement is the only permanent solution.

Question 9

What should I do if my windows are difficult to open?

Accepted Answer

Difficulty opening windows can be caused by paint buildup, warped frames, worn hardware, or settling foundation issues. While some problems can be repaired, if windows are old or severely damaged, replacement may be more cost-effective and provide better security and energy efficiency.

Question 10

How long do window installations typically take?

Accepted Answer

Installation time varies based on the number of windows and complexity of the project. A typical single window replacement takes 1-2 hours, while a whole-house window replacement may take 1-3 days. We'll provide a detailed timeline during your free estimate and work efficiently to minimize disruption.

Question 11

What are signs that my windows need replacement?

Accepted Answer

Warning signs include drafts, condensation between panes, difficulty opening or closing, high energy bills, visible damage or decay, outside noise infiltration, or fading furniture from UV exposure. If you notice any of these issues, contact us for a free evaluation.

Question 12

Are tax credits available for windows and doors?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you may be eligible to receive a 10% federal tax credit up to $200 for windows and $500 for doors that meet Energy Star guidelines. These credits had expired in 2011 but the new law, "The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012" has extended these tax credits to the end of 2013 and retroactively for 2012.

Question 13

Can you help me choose the right windows for my home?

Question 16

How can window replacement improve my home's energy efficiency?

Accepted Answer

Question 17

Accepted Answer

We are locally owned and family operated, backed by a national brand. We offer Made in America products, professional installation, competitive pricing through national buying power, and personalized service. Our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is reflected in our excellent reviews and repeat customers.

Question 22

Is the installation as important as the window?

Accepted Answer

Yes, a window needs to be properly measured to fit the opening and allow adequate tolerance for pluming and squaring the new window. If the new window is not properly plumbed and squared, it will not seal and operate properly, no matter how good the quality of the new window.

Question 23

What should I do to prepare for installation?

Accepted Answer

Please ensure clear access to all windows and doors being replaced. Remove window treatments, decorations, and furniture from the work area. If you have pets, please plan to secure them during installation. Our team will protect your home with drop cloths and clean up after completion.

Question 24

How can I reduce my energy costs with new windows?

Accepted Answer

Choose Energy Star certified windows with Low-E coatings, multiple panes, and quality sealing. Proper installation eliminates air leaks, and features like argon gas fills and insulated frames further improve efficiency. We can help you select the most energy-efficient options for Florida's climate.

Question 25

What's the difference between single and double hung windows?

Accepted Answer

Single hung windows have a fixed upper sash and movable lower sash, while double hung windows have two movable sashes that can both open. Double hung windows provide better ventilation control and easier cleaning since both sashes can typically tilt in for maintenance.

Question 26

When should I consider replacing my patio doors?

Accepted Answer

Consider replacement if your patio doors are difficult to open or close, have broken seals causing fogging, show signs of rot or damage, let in drafts, or are over 15-20 years old. New patio doors improve energy efficiency, security, and enhance your home's appearance.

Question 27

What causes windows to fail prematurely?

Accepted Answer

Premature window failure can result from poor installation, low-quality materials, extreme weather exposure, building settling, or manufacturing defects. That's why proper installation by experienced professionals and choosing quality products with good warranties is so important.

Question 28

How do I know if I need new windows versus repairs?

Accepted Answer

Our experienced team will honestly assess your windows' condition and provide recommendations based on age, damage extent, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. We'll explain the pros and cons of repair versus replacement, helping you make an informed decision that's best for your situation and budget.
